First, it was the highlands of Baclayon, as the site of choice of a wealthy German expatriate giving rise to the uppity Peacock Garden Luxury Resort & Spa. Then the highways of the historic town gave way recently to the Foton Motor-Bohol, the showroom of China-made pick-up and mini trucks, vans, among others. And only last month, Baclayon saw the inauguration of its first gasoline station the Petrobest Gas Station of the Racho family. Don't look now but the next big thing in Baclayon is its white beaches which captivated the interest of a Manila-based investor.
This time, all eyes are focused on a two-hectare beachfront property in barangay Taguihon following the ground-breaking of Astoria-Bohol. Baclayon Mayor Alvin Uy welcomed this new development in the historic town saying that with its proximity to Tagbilaran, the town has become a surburb of the capital city and fast becoming an investment hub after Panglao and Dauis. Astoria-Bohol is the third resort to be constructed by the Astoria Group, the fdirst was the Astopria _Plaza in OPrtigas and lately Astpria-Boracay. A fourth resort is planned in Baclayon. Costing P30 million, Astoria-Bohol will be managed by hotel executive Joy Suarez. Styled as a botique resort, the ground-breaking of the new establishment was held last Wednesday at its site in Taguihon, Baclayon. The resort is planned to house 100 rooms.
