CPG hometown marks his birthday with fitting commemorative program

 

TALIBON.-This municipality, hometown of the late Boholano president Carlos Garcia, marked his birth anniversary Thursday with simple but fitting ceremonies. The center of the celebration was sitio Luy-a, barangay San Agustin of this town, birthplace of the Talibon hero. Mayor Restituto Auxtero spearheaded initiated the commemoration with all government officials and employees students, relatives of the celebrant and the general public. The affair was opened with a motorcade at 1:00 in the afternoon starting from the Municipal Building and then to the site of birthplace. Boyles hosted the literary musical program with Engineer Nito Flores led the opening prayer and Lourliney Macariola for the singing of hymns. Newly re-elected barangay chairman Felimon Buno of San Agustin gave his welcome remarks and followed by a representation from the San Jose National High School (SJNHS). Auxtero, in his privilege speech, informed the audience on the changes on the schedule of the program for CPG's birthday.

He said the change was in response to the request of Governor Edgar Chatto who wanted to attend the program conducted right at the birthplace of Pres. Garcia. He concluded his message by extending his thanks to the response of the Talibongnons of his call to participate the program honoring the son of the town who became the 4 th President of the Republic of the Philippines and the first President of the Constitutional Convention. Former town kagawad Thomas Cornelio the son of the only sister of the celebrant detailed the life and times of the late CPG. Chatto, in his message, gave thanks to Mayor Auxtero for granting his request to hold the celebration in the afternoon for him to attend personally. He asked the Talibongnons to always remember CPG for his rare accomplishments from simple and poor man who rose to become the head of the country. He further said that this affair is one way of showing respect and love to him, “yet I am asking you to always put CPG in your heart”.

He proudly informed the audience about the present programs and projects under his present administration. He concluded his talked by informing the student populace about the CPG scholarship program for the poor but deserving students, the Bohol Educational Subsidy Program for those CPG scholarship applicants who fails to meet the requirements of CPG scholarship, available funding at Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital for the indigent patients, and the putting of Governor's sub-office located at Talibon town hall. The office is designed to cater the needs of all neighboring towns as far from Tagbilaran City. Board Members Josephine Socorro Jumamoy and Gerardo Garcia of the second district gave their respective massages asking the youth to follow the steps of the late CPG. Lawyer Fernando Campus, son in law of the celebrant, asked Talibongnons to always honor and remember his father-in-law and his famous “Pilipino First Policy”. After the messages, Mayor Auxtero, Governor Chatto with their staff proceeded to the Municipal Hall for the blessing and inauguration of the Governor's Sub-Office at Talibon.

Caridad Mumar and Policronio Garcia, sister and brother of the honoree led the wreath laying done at the CPG monument. The competitions for folkdance, balak and CPG quiz were conducted right at the CPG shrine with Enrique Carusos, schools district supervisor, Talibon I, as over-all chairman. The affair was successfully conducted with the participation of the Blessed Trinity College, San Jose National High School (SJNHS); Bohol Institute of Technology International College (BIT-IC); President Carlos P. Garcia Memorial High School (PCPGMHS); Mayor Catalino Casoyla Memorial High School (MCCMHS); students and teachers; barangay officials and the general public. -onad munalem
