Tubigon's mega-waterworks project undertaken

In order to serve its constituents and be able to provide them with all the utilities they deserve, water one of them, the Municipal Waterworks Office is undertaking its most ambitious project so far. Dubbed as the “Construction and Rehabilitation of Tubigon Municipal Waterworks Piped-Water Supply System, the project's total cost is pegged at P46-M. The project's organizational structure is being composed of a triumvirate: The Tubigon Project Management Office headed by Engr. Ronaldo Arcayos, the University of San Carlos- Water Resources Center Foundation under Engr. Petronio C. Muring who is taking charge of the project consultancy and lastly the bidder for the contract, the MAC Builders of Ormoc City led by its Project Engineer Roger Vergara.

Basically, the groundwork of the undertaking involves tapping its existing abundant source, a spring from upland barangay Bunacan, total rehabilitation of the main line pipes and existing deepwells, construction of two 300 cu. meter tanks, drilling of new deepwell sources, and construction of a filtration tank. This way excessive costs brought about by the wastage of water supply would be addressed. When completed, the project expects to deliver abundant water supply to households 24/7. Last September 16, during the strategic planning of the municipality's head of the department in Cebu City, a memorandum of agreement was being entered by MAC Builders and the Local Government Unit of Tubigon primarily stating that the project is expected to be completed in 300 calendar days starting when the MOA has been entered.

Mayor William R. Jao, a civil engineer by profession and an entrepreneur by practice, was the one who personally scrutinized the details of the project since he has already been exposed to such line of work back in his overseas employment in UAE as a project engineer. In fact, he enthusiastically signed the final plan during the pre-construction conference held at the S.B. Session Hall on October 1. Tubignons are looking at around 10 months for the completion of the undertaking, which would be the third quarter of next year 2011. In this way, the municipality could truly live up to its name origin, a place abundant with water-- Tubigon. In another development, the Municipal Agricultural Office in cooperation with PhilRice Research Institute, a government-owned and controlled corporation recently held their Location Specific Technology Development in barangay Macaas.

The activity was participated in various rice farmers of the town's barangays and from the neighboring towns as well. The farmers field day was aimed to showcase and highlight all the applicable farming technologies in order to increase rice productivity and profitability. More than that farmers are being taught cost effective technologies though follow-up classes on location and an open-forum. The activity was capped by inspirational talks and messages from Vice MayorVirgilio Fortich, PhilRice Devt. Coordinator Albert Christian Suner, PATCO-Bohol Project head Eugene Cabiles and the Municipal. Agriculturist Yolanda Labella.
