The municipality of Dauis was chosen by the Philippine Atmospheric and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) as site of its weather forecasting activities. A memorandum of agreement between PAGASA and the municipality represented by Mayor Jimmy Jimenez was signed recently for both parties to undertake their respective roles in setting the local office of the weather bureau. Under the memorandum, the PAGASA will undertake activities relative to observation, collection, assessment and processing of atmospheric and allied other weather data for the benefit of agriculture, commerce and industry of Dauis as may be requested by the local government unit. The LGU, on the other hand, will provide the site and physical structure which shall house the local PAGASA office subject to the condition that the site to be occupied by the office shall be given back to the municipality if it will be no longer in use.
The municipality is also mandated in the agreement to assign personnel to serve as member of the non-technical staff of the local PAGASA office and shoulder their salaries and wages. On the part of the weather bureau, it will also be tasked to provide and issue warnings and forecasts of incoming typhoon and thunderstorms or changes in the weather conditions affecting the safety, welfare and economy of the people of Dauis. At the same time, the same office, will also provide regular weather forecast on a daily/weekly/monthly basis upon request of the LGU. It will also provide weather data such as, but not limited to, day-to-day temperature and precipitation activity and atmospheric conditions for present and future reference for the LGU. |
