G-Hernandez retains ISO 14001 certificate

DGarcia-Hernandez has retained its ISO 14001 or the Environmental Management System (EMS) certificate after an external audit was conducted by TUV SUD PSB Philippines on June 10-11, 2010. The surveillance audit was the last of the three audits for the three-year ISO certification of Garcia-Hernandez, which will end mid of 2011. Upon expiration of the certification, the newly elected officials of the municipality may opt to defer the certification or renew it for another span of three years. Charlie Labrador of TUV SUD conducted the external audit on the four pilot offices of Garcia-Hernandez, namely; the Mayor's Office, Municipal Agriculture's Office, Municipal Planning and Development Office, and the Municipal Treasurer's Office. The audit process involved a facility tour and interviews with the Implementing Committees (IC) for checking of the EMS Documents and compliance to the system.

Although the ISO certificate for Garcia-Hernandez is nearing expiration, the municipal employees and the newly elected officials expressed their support and would want to continue to implement the system in a wider scale involving all other offices of the municipality. This will greatly enhance the benefits that they can derive through implementing EMS. Being the first LGU in the Philippines to be certified with the ISO 14001 by TUV SUD has been a great achievement for the municipality. Aside from the certificate and recognition they received, the LGU has learned to manage their operations and programs to ensure proper consideration to the effects of the environment which is the most important achievement they acquired through implementing the system. With the support of the LGU officials and employees of Garcia-Hernandez, the EMS implementation will be maintained providing continual improvement in their Environmental Management.
