Man found dead due to drowning, snake bite

A young man was found dead inside a well inhabited by snakes in Maribojoc town last week. The victim was identified as one Christopher Rasonabe alias Isoy, 22, single, jobless and a resident of Barangay Cabawan, Maribojoc. Rasonabe's lifeless body was discovered in an abandoned well owned by Benjamin Tinay of the same barangay. PO1 Arnie Guc-ong of the Maribojoc PNP told Station DyTR that a scuffle took place Sunday evening between two groups of youths. Rasonabe was believed to be part of one of the rival groups that figured in the fight following a drinking spree. After the reported altercation, Rasonabe could no longer be found prompting the search. It led to the discovery of the victim's body in the well about 15 feet deep and a known snake habitat.

Based on the medical certificate issued after the post-mortem examination, the victim bore snake bite which was believed to be one of the causes of his death. The post-mortem examination conducted by Dr. Perpetuo Belderol, Maribojoc municipal health officer, also pointed to drowning as another possible cause of death. Rasonabe's lifeless body was fished out of the well using rope that was tied around his body. One of the snakes got snared in the rope and was pulled up with the corpse since it was still coiled on the neck of the victim.
