Tour guides have lamented the presence of trash along the roads on the way to the popular countryside tour sites which is contrary to what guides boast off - a clean and green Bohol . Consequently, members of the Bohol Island Tour Guides Association of the Philippines, Inc. (BITGAP) a group of Department of Tourism-accredited tour guides in the province, took a day off from their usual tours just to do a clean-up of the famous man-made forest particularly the areas nestled within the boundaries of Loboc and Bilar towns. The activity otherwise known as "Operation Hinlo Lasang" was held to coincide with the International Tourist Guides Day.
The group gathered more than 25 extra-large trash bags filled with plastic wrappers, empty water bottles and styrofoam food containers littered within the area. Mrs. Artemia B. Dolotina, clean and green coordinator and representative of the municipality of Bilar also joined the tour guides during the clean-up. The accumulated trash was then collected by LGU-Bilar. This activity calls not just for tourists and commuters but for everybody to dispose off trash responsibly and conscientiously. It poses a challenge to the concerned LGU's, and tourism stakeholders to conduct massive education and information dissemination then strictly implement ordinances on proper waste disposal management. It was just the first of a series of environmental clean-up that the organization will be conducting for 2010. |
