AT LEAST 1,200 Inabangnons will get entrepreneurial skills, or at least increase their employability with the ongoing Project STARS (Skills Training Advocating for Reliance on Self-employment). For the project, the town picked two residents from each of its 50 barangays to train in welding, plumbing, electricity, motorcycle mechanic, cellphone repair, household service, reflexology, manicure/pedicure and hair styling – now into their second week – at the Inabanga Cultural Center . Other trainings to be offered are driving, tour guiding, TV/ Radio repair. Experts from or tapped by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) are conducting the trainings for which the trainees will receive certificates of proficiency from TESDA.
Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado had launched the project, witnessed by Vice Governor Julius Caesar Herrera, Provincial Board Member Josephine Socorro Jumamoy and other provincial government officials. Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy led town officials in mobilizing the participants, providing the training venue and food for the trainees and trainors and accommodations for the latter, among others. The beneficiaries are youth or older individuals most of whom are currently jobless who are willing to learn new skills to make them productive. Aumentado had said the short course trainings will spur livelihood opportunities and economic benefits to Inabangnons especially in the countryside. For his part, Herrera noted that many people are unemployed because they don't have the necessary skills. Training empowers the youth – and even the older ones – to start their own business afterwards, he added. Meanwhile, Board Member Jumamoy encouraged the participants to “contribute something to Inabanga” by enhancing their own selves to improve their lives while Mayor Jumamoy said his administration also gives focus to intangible projects but which can boost the town's economy.
