Bohol teachers successfully finished Globe's GFT project

Some ninety-seven teachers from Bohol , Cebu and Negros Oriental, 25 of whom are Boholanos, successfully completed the Globe Telecom's Global Filipino Teachers (GFT) Program, a 54-hour, six-day ICT training that uses ICT tools to create an ICT-enabled learning environment in schools. The successful trainees had their recognition ceremonies Friday at the Cebu Convention Center in Mandaue City , Cebu . Gracing the event were Globe's President and CEO Ernest L. Cu, and Department of Education Secretary Jesli A. Lapus. The teachers were handpicked from schools connected to the Internet through Globe's corporate social responsibility program, the Globe Bridging Communities, or Globe BridgeCom's Internet-in-Schools Program (ISP), another major education program wherein Globe Broadband Internet access is given to qualified schools for free for a period of one year. Launched September last year, the GFT Program is part of Globe Telecom's corporate social responsibility of the firm's commitment to continue delivering relevant programs in the Central Visayas.

Globe BridgeCom initiatives include Text2Teach for elementary students, Internet-in-Schools Program (ISP) for high school students and Global Filipino Teachers (GFT) Program for teachers. The Text2Teach program provides teachers with a cellphone downloaded with more than 380 educational videos in Science, Math, English and Values that teachers can use in class. Today, almost a million students from 282 public elementary schools all over the country are able to use the Text2Teach. The Text2Teach program is in partnership with Nokia, Ayala Foundation and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization–Innotech. The ISP, on the other hand, provides one year free Globe Broadband Internet access to its partner schools all over the country. Jeffrey O. Tarayao, Globe's head for Corporate Social Responsibility, lauded Gov. Erico B. Aumentado as one of the very important partners in bringing ICT to Bohol and for the latter's efforts in continuing to inspire teachers to maximize ICT in their teaching profession and in enhancing the learning skills of students so they will be better-equipped to join the technology-driven economy of the country.
