2,756 patients served at medical mission

A total of 2,756 outpatients availed of the free consultations and free medicines during the recently concluded medical mission of the Association Philippine-American Physicians of Ohio (APPO) held last Feb. 22-26 in Tagbilaran City.             The APPO medical-surgical mission was led by Dr. Eulogio Sioson and Dr. German Neri, APPO 2009 and 2010 presidents respectively. This year's activity was chaired by Dr. Armando Damian while the mission coordinator was Dr. Carmencita Damian. Also serving in key capacities were Dr. Zenaida Jandi, outpatient department chair; Dr. Jorge Jandi, Medical Hospital chair;  Ma. Christina Hernandez, central supply chair; and Rosemarie Diaz, central supply assistant.

The medical mission was facilitated by the Rotary Club of Tagbilaran led by its president, Walter Lim, and banker Rodney Lumuthang who is APPO mission chairman and overall coordinator. The University of Bohol also offered its services and facilities through lawyer Victoriano Jr., president; lawyer Nuevas Tirol-Montes, vice president for administration; and Dean Isabelita Margate of the College of Nursing . The major surgeries were performed at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital under Dr. Nenita Po, chief of hospital, and Dr. Zaldy Buac, chief of the surgery department.

Tagbilaran Mayor Dan Lim was very profuse in his thanks to the members of the medical mission. “Since the first time I observed the medical team from Ohio , I knew that they are in the business of caring for other people,” Lim said during his speech at the closing program. The mayor paid tribute to the APPO members saying they put other people first, not counting the cost, never minding what it means to them. “I know very few people who are as unselfish, as generous and caring as they are,” Lim said. Dr. Albert Jones, city health officer, said a total of 75 volunteers took part in the mission. By the time the mission closed, a total of 41 major surgeries and 98 minor surgeries were performed in addition to the 2,176 outpatients served.
