Liga ng mga Barangay president Concepcion Lim broke her silence Wednesday about possibilities that she will be caught in the web of intrigues arising from her close association with the family of Gov. Erico Aumentado. As Liga president Lim automatically becomes the ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan representing the Federated Association of Barangay Councils (FABC). Clearly trying to stay away from any suspicion, Lim granted an exclusive interview to the Post to dispel reports that might jeopardize her own bid for Bohol vice governor.
Hiding no pretences about her family's friendship with the Aumentados, Lim disabused the minds of those who tried to drive a wedge between them adding that their closeness dated back when the governor was still a struggling politician. Aumentado then a young lawyer, tried his luck in politics running as provincial member and won. It proved to be the start of a promising political career that catapulted to his becoming a three-term governor. He was also vice governor then three-term congressman of the second district. It was during the time when Aumentado ran for board member that he became the lawyer of the Lims' business interests in Valencia .
The Lim-Aumentado friendship was subjected to covert scrutiny in the wake of the raging “word war” between the governor and Cong. Roberto Cajes, a party mate of Lim in the Lakas-Kampi CMD. Lim is running for vice governor under the ruling party with Cong. Edgar Chatto as her candidate for governor. Asked to react if she were not affected by the current high-profile political conflict between allies of her own, Lim refused to be dragged into the controversy. Aumentado and Cajes were caught in a bitter infighting that escalated into a trading of heated barbs zeroing in on corruption issues. What fanned the flames of animosity between the two erstwhile allies was the decision of the incumbent second district congressman to allow his wife to succeed him. Trinidad Mayor Judith Cajes' ambition to succeed her husband ran smack into Aumentado's bid to regain his old Congress seat of which he was a three-term congressman.
Saying both of them remain her friends, Lim said she just went on with her campaign to capture the second highest elective post of the province. As for Gov. Aumentado, the Valencia lawmaker said no amount of intrigue will stand in the way of their friendly relation because it was based on loyalty and self-respect. In fact, in one of her sorties in the municipalities, Lim said her speaking terms with the governor was still in high gear when they bumped each other in Pres. Garcia town. For one, Lim said, she doesn't want to pick up a fight with anybody much less to a close family friend like the governor. As a manifestation of her respect to the governor, the Valencia board member sought the governor's clearance before she filed her certificate of candidacy for vice governor.
