Who's afraid of the Valencia opposition? No, not the Lims

A critical commentary found elsewhere in this issue unleasing a verbal attack against the Lims of Valencia did not escape an equally critical response from one of the family's matriarchs who is running for vice governor under the ruling Lakas-Kampi CMD. The unedited news article is found at the Jagna edition in this issue. Board Member Concepcion Lim, president of the provincial Liga ng mg Barangay, took exceptions to allegations thrown in the direction of their family's control of the municipality that dating back since time immemorial. Lim said with God's help, she was confident that the Valencia electorate will remain loyal and tested no matter what the opposition is saying against the family.

An article e-mailed to the Post and written by Myrna Gamas Cajilog detailed the indiscretions of the Lims in ruling Valencia for decades. Checking the background of the writer, Lim said it was true that she is a Valencia native but she is now a resident of Laguna. Lim said for Cajilog to claim that she was an authority of Valencia affairs was tantamount to misleading the people of her hometown. She is the daughter of Lim's ward leader in the town. Answering Cajilog's allegations point-by-point, Lim said there was no truth to the accusations raised by the letter-writer. The letter-sender insinuated in her article that the Lims were alarmed at the rate the Valencia opposition was gaining its strides in trying to dismantle the Lim dynasty.

A retired air force general in Leo Olegario is leading the Valencia opposition charge for the town's mayoralty and his group was trying to win the hearts and minds of the people by introducing the merits of new politics. But if the opposition believed that the Lims were having sleepless nights because it is out to give the Lims a run of their money, the ruling Valencia family retorted, that it was still on top of the political situation. Lim's nephew, Henrietta Lim Gan, is running for reelection and she appeared unfazed by the prospect of taking on a retired general for an opponent, even if she was left to her own devices, as her auntie was seeking a higher provincial post. The elder Lim, however., was equally confident that her family will still dominate the Valencia mayoralty knowing the mentality of the voters.

Lim said experience will bear her out that in Valencia , anybody who only shows up during election time will surely earn the wrath of the discerning electorate. The candidacy of Olegario was no exception, according to Lim. She said as far as Valencianhons were concerned, Olegario only became a Valencia native when election time comes. “ Valencia voters are intelligent and they know whom to vote for mayor in May 2010', she added. As a manifestation that her nephew will it pull off against any pretender in Valewncia for the mayoralty seat, Lim submitted to the clamor of the Valencia people to run for vice governor. She said if she knew beforehand that her nephew cannot possibly tackle any challenge to defend their turf from any intruder, she would have begged off the wishes of her own people for a higher provincial position. With Valencia in good hands, Lim said she could afford to roam around the province to present herself as a viable candidate for Bohol vice governor.

RAPS VS LIMS

Among others, the Cajilog article assailed reports that the Lims prevailed upon barangay captains of Omjon, Marawis, and Maubo not to attend the Yuletide king and queen coronation last Christmas season sponsored by the Omjon Elementary School . According t the same report, the Lims were reportedly piqued when they learned that Olegario was the guest of honor during the Christmas affair. ‘Nothing was further from the truth, “ Lim was quoted in reaction to this allegation. She said during the supposed event, she was in Manila and there's no way that she could have ordered the barangay captain to boycott the event. On another issue about a poultry owned by the Lims and located near the main road particularly between Canmanico and Canduao, the lady board member said it was located far from the main road. She corrected the letter-sender that the farm was in the upper portion of the two barangays leading to barangay Adlaon. The complainant raised the issue of air pollution brought about by the foul emission of the poultry farm.
