Criminology student shot dead in Clarin

He was supposed to graduate in Criminology but criminal elements ended this dream when they shot him dead. The victim was identified as one Mark Kevin Orejines, 19, a native of Barangay Liboron, Calape town and a graduating Criminology student at Mater Dei College in Tubigon. Investigators from the Clarin police station learned that the victim and his girlfriend were riding his motorcycle on their way to Clarin about 10:30 pm last Sunday. They were on their way to the home of the victim's girlfriend from Calape. When they reached Barangay Buacao in Clarin, they were stopped by two men riding a motorcycle. The suspects demanded that they turn over the motorcycle driven by Orejines but the victim refused. This prompted the suspects to shoot the victim before fleeing the scene while the victim's girlfriend shouted for help.

The victim was rushed to a hospital in Tubigon but he was declared dead on arrival. Police investigators are still looking into the case to determine the identities of the suspects. Meanwhile, a farmer is in guarded condition after he was stabbed while planting rice in Pilar town. The victim was identified as one Celso Basbas, 29, single and a resident of Barangay Inaghuban, Pilar town. Basbas sustained injuries on his stomach and buttocks and was brought to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City .

The suspect was identified as one Wilson Escover alias Dodo, 30, also a resident of the same place. Initial investigation showed that the victim along with three neighbors had asked to help in the planting and went to the rice fields at 3 am under the moonlight. The suspect, however, attacked the victim for still unknown reasons. Basbas wrestled with the suspect and prevented certain death during the attack and managed to run away. The suspect fled from the scene on the Honda Wave motorcycle owned by the victim's sibling. The motorcycle, however, was recovered after it was abandoned in another place.  Escover is facing cases for frustrated murder and carnapping but remains at large.
