Chatto ends year with “big bang” in gubernatorial bid

While Mayon folk in Albay are awaiting with bated breath a year ender explosion of its volcano, Cong. Edgar Chatto ended the year with a “big bang” of support from all sectors of society. Since two weeks ago, people living around the majestic Mayon Volcano in Albay were alerted of a possible violent explosion after its crater were observed to have emitted tons upon tons of volcanic debris. The kind of “eruption” in the case of Chatto came in the form of unprecedented reception from all sectors and people from all walks of life. This he observed as he wound up his provincewide sorties since formally announcing his intention to become the next governor. Knowing that the way to the voter's heart is to prove to the people that he is the best leader to lead them, Chatto was the hands-down choice of sectoral leaders as he visited the towns the past months or so. He did all this while Congress is in recess.

Chatto's brand of reaching out to the people included attending to both official and social functions. Even Christmas parties in which his presence has been most welcomed and felt was part of his Christmas routine. In the past days, Chatto had gone to huge gatherings as honored guest and speaker of provincial assemblies such as those of the barangay health workers (BHWs) and barangay nutrition scholars (BNSs). Notwithstanding his heavy schedule, Chatto still found time to honor invitations from different local government units (LGUs), local leagues such as the municipal federations of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), schools, etcetera. Chatto even went to Mactan in Cebu on invitation to speak in the honoring of the regional winners, who included two Boholanos, of the search for the Ten Outstanding Barangay Officials of the Year (TOBOY).

Back in Bohol , the municipal federation of ABC of Loon named him its “life and soul” for his constant support to the programs of the league and the projects of its member barangays. Chatto's provincial sorties have made him more endeared to the Boholano youths, a sector that idolizes him, so that the SK of Garcia-Hernandez, for example, chose him to honor the town's top 10 SK barangay chairpersons. The National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) earlier cited Chatto as an “icon of young political leaders” in the country today. Surveys by reputable institutions like the Holy Name University Research Center, trained by the Social Weather Stations (SWS), media, thru Internet, and those government initiated have consistently put Chatto in the frontline among the Bohol gubernatorial candidates. In his latest Bohol-wide rounds, more Boholanos were captivated not just by his display of experience, capability, diligence, resoluteness, hard work and dedication as a government official and political leader. As a person, fellow Boholanos have long known Chatto to be God-fearing, a straight family man, warm, approachable, friendly, respectful and generous. He is one mortal who can bleed for the needy. ne of the many other qualities of Chatto that has helped maintain his soft spot in the hearts of his fellow Boholanos is his strong sense of commitment.

He would honor even simple foundation anniversary celebrations in far-flung barangays already outside his district. These would exclude invitations from sectors and groups like business, professionals, civic, senior citizens, women, farmers, fisherfolk, urban poor, and disabled, among others, elsewhere in the province. Positive comments have kept hugging Chatto's Internet Facebook site, many of them making generous impressions of his public career, achievements, accomplishments, services, special concern programs, etcetera. On several occasions during his provincewide sorties, Chatto would hear unexpected outpourings of gratitude for assisting fellow Boholanos whom he had not even personally met before. Boholanos love Chatto for his “People's Day” at his residence on Saturdays during which he would personally accommodate and talk to his constituents and listen to their concerns.(With reports from Ven rebo Arigo)
