INABANGA reaped honors anew when it bagged an award for being outstanding in Coastal Resource Management (CRM) during the culmination Friday of the 46th Fish Conservation Week held at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-7) Compound in Cebu City. Dumanjug Mayor Cesar Baricuatro, president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines Cebu chapter and BFAR Region 7 Director Andres Bojos conferred the certificate to Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy, who was accompanied by Municipal Agriculturist Leocadio Torregosa and fishery technician Elvissa Anunciado.
The award came with a cash prize of P80,000 for an Input-Assisted Livelihood Project to be implemented next year. Jumamoy had followed on the CRM program put in place by his mother, former mayor and now Board Member Josephine Socorro Jumamoy. The Jumamoys steered the town to great heights, earning the distinction of being the first in the Philippines awarded as Level I benchmarks of performance in CRM in 2002. With the cash, the mayor aims to provide even more sustainable livelihood assistance to families in coastal areas.
