DEFENSE Sec. Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro is slated to visit Bohol on Friday as keynote speaker in the culmination of the celebration of October as Cooperative Month. Gov. Erico Aumentado said Teodoro has accepted the invitation of Provincial Board Member Josephine Socorro Jumamoy that he relayed to the secretary. Jumamoy, chair of the Bohol Provincial Cooperative Development Council (PCDC) had sought the governor's assistance in finding a resource person after Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, chair of the Senate Committee on Cooperatives, could not make it to the province on the date because of an overseas trip. For both Aumentado and Jumamoy, the choice of Teodoro came easy knowing that the latter – a bar topnotcher – is articulate. Only 45 years old, the secretary and former congressman for nine years representing the First District of Tarlac, assumed the post in 1997, the youngest person in Philippine history to hold the national defense assignment.
Both officials said they would like to know Teodoro's stand on issues affecting the country now that he is a presidential timber when the announced his 2010 intentions last March, At the same time, the governor would like to share the secretary's opinions with the mayors, vice mayors and Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) presidents province-wide who he invited to the Governor's Mansion this Friday to listen to Teodoro parry questions from the local tri-media. Aumentado's The Governor Reports airs every Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m. For this Friday's episode, the governor said he will just introduce Teodoro and then give way to him to answer questions from the media. Simulcast live over Tagbilaran City's two radio stations, relayed to another station in Ubay town and delayed broadcast over a Carmen-based station, Teodoro will also be heard worldwide as both city-based stations now go live streaming over the internet.
Following a late breakfast at the mansion. the secretary will proceed to the Bohol Cultural Center to address the PCDC. Teodoro is a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines , the University of the Philippines Alumni Association (UPAA), the UP Law AA, the Harvard AA in Cambridge , Massachussetts, and the Harvard Law AA. He is a licensed commercial pilot and a colonel in the Philippine Air Force Reserve. Shortly after completing high school, he was elected president of the Kabataang Barangay (KB) for Tarlac in 1980 and concurrently assumed the presidency of the youth movement for Central Luzon until 1985. He also became a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Tarlac from 1980 to 1986. Teodoro quit his old party Nationalist People's Coalition to join the merged administration party Lakas-Kampi-CMD where Aumentado is the provincial and concurrent regional party chair.
