‘Ondoy's' violent fit triggers rains, winds

Tropical storm Ondoy unleashed its violent fit in some parts of the province yesterday triggering heavy rains and strong winds. Although there was no casualty as of past midnight early today, the tropical storm came at a time when three fatalities were recorded in as many towns last week. The deaths in Duero , Jagna and Candijay were caused by flashfloods as a result of increasing water volume in the rivers of these towns. This city and practically all Bohol towns experienced heavy rains and gusty winds as the tropical storm battered the Visayas and the rest of Luzon . Also hardly hit was Metro Manila were heavy rainfall triggered floods in low-lying areas of the metropolis. In Bohol , three persons were reported dead in separate drowning incidents last week in as many eastern towns when heavy rains caused swelling river waters in Jagna, Duero and Candijay. In an interview with P01 Christopher Aceron of the Jagna police station, he confirmed that a certain Aldrin Honasa, 35 years old resident of barangay Canjulao, Jagna town and married was drowned due to flash floods that hit the town..

The same police report indicated that Honasa, who was drunk before the incident, reportedly teased his family, that he can swim in the swelling the Canjulao river. He did not live to tell his daring exploit because he drowned in the raging waters. Conflicting reports bared that while drunk he dared to cross the river amidst the rampaging waters. His house is located across the river which explained his attempt to swim while the river flow was raging with violent force. Honasa's lifeless body was retrieved nearby particularly near the seaport in barangay Looc. In Duero , an adjacent town of Jagna , another drowning occurred costing the life of Joseph Rances, 22 years old, single, and a resident of Poblacion in this town. His lifeless body was recovered somewhere in barangay Itum, about a kilometer from the river, where the fatal took place.

Like the Jagna incident, Rances was also reportedly drunk when he fell into the river. His house is located beside the river. In a separate interview, Candijay Mayor Sergio Amora, Jr. said he heard of a report about the person whose lifeless body found somewhere in the hinterland barangay of Canawa. Amora, who was attending to a sport activity hosted by his town, said that the lifeless body remained unidentified as of this writing. Cause of the death remained unknown. He added that some officials of barangay Tugas were looking for a missing person. But they cannot confirm if the body found in Canawa was the one they were looking for.
