Talibon joins celebration of 109th CSC anniversary

Through the leadership of Mayor Juanario Item, the municipality of Talibon joined the month-long celebration of the 109th anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service that revolves the theme, “Honoring our Heroes in Republic Service, Responsive, Ethical Public Servants with Vision, Impact, Commitment and Excellence”. Acting HRMO Sarah Jane Henson and Municipal Administrator Aveleo Credo initiated a meeting with all department heads to arrange the different activities fitted for the celebration. They arrived at the decision to hold tournaments on basketball, lawn tennis for men, volleyball and badminton for men and women. The celebration kicked off on September 9 with a street parade participated in by all government officials and employees that ended at the Carlos P. Garcia Multi-Purpose Center last September 8 where a short program was held.

Representative from the Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital (GMPH) led the opening prayer, while Engr. Credo introduced the different participating teams. In his inspirational message, Mayor Item said the different competitions that the municipal government has prepared are designed for the celebration and purposely done to create camaraderie, close relationship among government servants and to develop sportsmanship among them. He said the spirit of sportsmanship must be “always in our hearts, especially during the game”. “Everyone must know how to accept wins and defeat, because in every contest there is always a winner and a loser,” Item said.

He clinched his speech by informing everybody that these activities are always conducted every September which is the Civil Service Month. Niño Marlowe Auxtero, representative from the Department of Education, led the oath of sportsmanship. Hon. Thomas Cornelio, Chairman of the Appropriation Committee gave the closing message. Municipal Sports Coordinator George Avenido presented the ground rules that will govern the basketball competition. The contest proper started with the raising of banners where the Philippine National Police (PNP) team won. Mayor Item made the ceremonial tossing for the basketball event that signals the beginning of the tournament.

All six events were participated in by six teams that included the Red team composed of PNP, Municipal Circuit Trial Court (MCTC), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) of Philippine Postal Office (PPO). The white team comprise of athletes from the Bureau of Jail Management (BJMP), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Public Attorney's Office (PAO) and Parole and Probation. The yellow team was composed of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), National Irrigation Administration (NIA), Talibon Water District (TAWAD), and Philhealth. Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital (GMPH), Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), Commission on Election (COMELEC) and Land Transportation Office composed the green team. Blue team is solely represented by the local government unit of Talibon (LGU-Talibon) and another green team is the Department of Education (DepEd). All winners of the different events will receive cash prizes from the LGU, through Mayor Item.
