A two-year-old boy became the first casualty of the dreaded dengue disease in Bohol this year. The victim was identified as one Julian Lincol Amad, a resident of Sitio Suba, Barangay Poblacion, Tubigon. The boy died after he was rushed for treatment at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran. According to the boy's family, he had been suffering from fever for the previous three days. After he started to weaken and experienced bleeding, his relatives decided to bring him to the hospital. Hospital authorities confirmed that the boy was suffering from dengue and attempted to revive him. All efforts failed however and the boy eventually succumbed at the hospital past 5 am last July 10. As this developed, the Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed reports of another case of AH1N1 flu in Bohol. The latest swine flu case involved an 18-year-old American national who was visiting the province.
This was the second confirmed case in Bohol after a nurse who arrived from the United Kingdom last month. This was confirmed by Dr. Susana Madarieta, DOH Region 7 regional director in an interview with Station DyTR. The latest report was earlier revealed by board member Cesar Tomas Lopez with Dr. Greg Sodusta, Bohol assistant provincial health officer. Sodusta also revealed that three patients from Bohol were placed under observation after their throat swab examination showed symptoms of the flu. Madarieta however disclosed that the results were negative.
She also revealed that starting July 10, the results of the throat swab examination can be evaluated in Cebu.
This is a big improvement compared to the previous process that entailed examination in Manila. |
