Bohol to get 7 new bridges

BOHOL stands to get seven new bridges under the Urgent Bridges Construction Project for Rural Development (UBCPRD) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). In a letter to Gov. Erico Aumentado, Project Engineers Edgardo Tarriela Jr. and Edmundo Mangaoil said the “flagship project” of the government is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with the DPWH-President's Bridge Program as the implementing office. Katahira and Engineers International (KEI) will undertake the construction supervision while the Toyo-Tobishima Joint Venture is the contractor. Aumentado who is still in the United States as guest speaker during the 13th biennial convention of the Confederation of Boholanos, USA and Canada, Inc. (Conbusac) had welcomed the development. He said the bridges will make travel easier and safer, accelerate the bringing of farm products to the market, cut travel time especially from one town to the next and to tourist destinations as well.

The Bago Creek 1 and Bago Creek 2 bridges in Buenavista town along the Junction Loay Interior Road (LIR)-Buenavista-Carmen-Danao- Getafe Road will be 14.8 meters and 20.8 meters long respectively, single-span integral reinforced concrete deck girder (RCDG) type on concrete pile foundation on both abutments. A total of 162 meters of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) roadway will also be constructed on the approaches of both bridges. Along the same road will be the 12.56-meter Lubang Bridge , single-span concrete flat slab type on spread footing foundation, with 159.34 meters of PCCP approach roadway, as well as the 15.8-meter single-span integral RCDG type Malid Bridge with 144.2 meters of PCCP approach roadway. On the other hand, along the LIR are the Wahig and the Quinoguitan bridges. The former will be a 63.66-meter three-span Pre-Stressed Concrete Deck Girder (PCDG) bridge on reinforced concrete pile foundation on both abutments and spread footing type foundation at piers 1 and 2 with a 241.34-meter PCCP approach roadway. The latter is only 25.7 meters, single-span steel, H-beam on spread footing type foundation on both abutments with 214.3 meters of PCCP approach roadway. Meanwhile, the Moawa Bridge on the Carmen-Sagbayan-Bacani Road is 30.8 meters long, single-span integral PCDG type with concrete pile foundation on both abutments. It will have a 249.2-meter PCCP approach roadway.
