Mayor Dan Neri Lim sought yesterday the reaction of the management of his favorite whipping institution—DYRD-Bohol Chronicle media combined, on the truth of alleged cash donation coursed through the local Catholic church channel. Acting like a broadcast spitfire, Mayor Lim asked if indeed the twin media enterprise is a recipient of such donation which he quoted to be in the vicinity of P300,000/year. He said DYRD and the Bohol Chronicle should enlighthen the public first about the supposed cash bonanza before it preaches righteousness over the air lanes and in the pages of the popular bi-weekly. The mayor and the media outfit are in a running word war over alleged irregularities at city hall while the city executive retaliated by taking to task the various infractions of the media entity including the issue of the church donation. In a virtual case of tit-for-tat, the two media enterprise took turns in putting the mayor on the spot citing alleged anomalies in the city square rehabilitation contract and the chief executive's unliquidated cash advances, among other controversial issues.
Earlier, Mayor Lim and the media firms were locked in verbal combat in another battlefront. This time the controversy came about when Mayor Lim took the cudgels for Bishop Leonardo Medroso who was allegedly pilloried in DYRD's blocktime of commentator Roberto “Batchoy” Alba. During yesterday's “Ang Mayor sa Dakbayan” weekly program over Station DYTR , the main meat of discussion was centered into the church donation. Sought for his reaction, DYRD General Manager Peter Dejaresco said the mayor was in such a "desperate mood of trying to discredit the station as if it got funding through questionable means." The station management said DYRD being a member station of the Catholic Media Network(CMN) is entitled to avail of grants to be used for the upgrading of radio facilities as part of reaching out to a greater audience in the Church evangelization program through the media. The said grant was part of the upgrading program of the station which the management embarked last year thereby improving the quality reception and scope of its coverage area.
There are 28 AM and 26 FM stations in the entire country which belong to CMN radio stations are extended this support in order to reach the rural areas where evangelization is needed the most. Likewise it is part of supporting the Church programs especially that other religious sects are also actively using radio and television in their evangelization programs.
DYRD, which is now on its 48th year of broadcasting activities has consistently aired several church based programs, including live coverages of church events and the regular airing of Sunday masses live from the St .Joseph Cathedral.
Annual Holy Week procession activities are using the radio station's facilities to beam the recitation of prayers and hymns to the general public The church based programs include the prime-time slot of Bishop Leonardo Medroso's program "Pulong sa Kinabuhi" aired at 5:55am. |
