After two days in the loose, the suspect in the killing of a 20-year-old resident of Baclayon surrendered before the Bohol Provincial Police Office in Camp Dagohoy, Tagbilaran City. The suspect, also from Baclayon, was identified as Omar Ubas, 21, single, and a third year criminology student. This was bared by Police Provincial Director Edgardo Ingking. Accompanied by his elder brother, Ubas yielded to the provincial police office, the Investigation Branch of the Bohol Police Provincial Office headed by Police Inspector John Gilbert Basalo at around 12 noon of April 14. Reports had it that Ubas, who is from the neighboring barangay, San Roque swooped down the victim's residence in sitio Baliquit, barangay Poblacion at around 1 a.m. of April 12 and allegedly gunned him down right in his (victim) backyard. Ubas reportedly hit the victim, Leonardo Salac Jr. in the right chest portion just below the armpit using a handgun with unknown caliber.
The victim was immediately rushed to Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Tagbilaran City, but physicians pronounced him dead on arrival. Baclayon police who immediately conducted the hot pursuit operations for the capture of the suspect failed to locate Ubas. Based on initial investigation showed involvement of the two in gang-related activities as the motive of the killing, since Ubas admitted to be a member of the "Blood Gang". The suspect is now temporarily detained at the Camp Dagohoy detention cell pending the filing of murder case by the Baclayon Police Station before the Provincial Prosecutor's Office. (PSInsp.
