Big-time ‘swertres' front, 4 others post cash bond

Just how quick and fast was the raid on his lair was also just as quick when the time came for the main suspect and his four cohorts to gain temporary liberty. This referred to the arrest of a big-time maintainer, believed to be the front of a Cebuano financier of the illegal numbers game “swertres”. According to police reports, this maintainer cum front for the financier holds port along the Mansasa seaside. How lucrative his swertres operations can be gleaned from the fact that the bet money siezed in his possession was in thousands iof pesos. The bet money conficted mostly in loose coins amounted to Pabout P100,000. The suspected swretres personality identified as Ramon Rosales, of legal age, married and a resident of Barangay Mansasa.

In an instant, it did not take too long for Rosales to raise P28,000 in bail money. His cohorts identified as Michael Taruc, Conrado Zaide, Daisy Jane Taldo and Abundia Castillon and believed to be the financier's tally personnel were covered by a cash bond of P16,000 each. Rosales is a native of Talibon, Zaide is from Cogon district city while Taruc is from Booy. Taldo is from Loboc while Castillon hails Mansasa. Rosales was arrested by a team from the provincial anti-illegal gambling task force 9 pm last Jan. 22. The team was headed by Senior Supt. Edgardo Ingking, Bohol PNP provincial commander. Rosales is allegedly a maintainer, a rank to the personality next only to the financier in the operation of the illegal numbers game. The responsibility is bigger than the coordinator. They were arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Dionisio Calibo Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 50 based in Loay.

The raiding team recovered tally sheets and tip sheets, calculators and cash amounting to P100,000 believed to be proceeds from bets as part of the group's operation. The suspects were booked on charges of violating Republic Act 9287 governing anti-illegal gambling. All five were held under police custody in Camp Dagohoy until they were temporarily released. Ingking said Rosales was ordered freed after posting bail of P28,000 while the alleged runners posted bail of P16,000 each. According to Ingking, the arrest of Rosales and his group is the biggest blow yet against illegal gambling operations in the province. He also warned that more swertres operators will be arrested in succeeding operations to be conducted under his command.
